Black Canyon Inn's Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Get Married in the Winter

When people hear of a couple getting engaged, they can usually plan on and expect to receive a wedding invitation in the spring to later celebrate their nuptials in the summer. BUT, believe it or not, winter weddings are becoming more and more popular for a number of different reasons. And now that November is in full swing, it is the perfect time to think about why a winter wedding is perfect for you. We at the Black Canyon Inn have come up with our top 10 reasons why we think you should be planning to get hitched at this beautiful time of year.

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

1. Off season = The Best Season

It should not surprise you that May through October is the prime time for all Colorado wedding vendors. Because vendors know that their weekends will easily book during these six months, they inflate their rates to make business more profitable.  By scheduling your wedding in the winter, not only will you be able to secure vendors for cheaper prices, you will also have more flexibility when it comes to everyone's availability.  Instead of venues telling you what days are "leftover" in the summer time, you will most likely get to pick a special date that has special meaning for you! Because of this increased availability you will also be able to book with less time in advance. No need to wait a year and a half to stress over every last detail, book sooner and spare yourself the anxiety.

2. Seasonal Charm

Another bonus of planning a winter wedding is the use of free decor. Typically around the holidays, venues are already decorated with beautiful flowers, seasonal flair, and not to forget... the snow! Use this to your advantage and only add enough decoration to make it your own.  It is also fun to incorporate seasonal decorations as favors for your guests and did we mention that using winter greens instead of flowers can really free up your budget? What's not to like?!

3. Romantic Evenings

With the nights drawing in, you can start an evening party that bit sooner, which means you have longer to enjoy it!  Dress up your venue and get the atmosphere going from the moment dusk sets in. Use lights to create a magical scene and remember you can dress up exterior trees, too. Use battery operated candles to light walkways for an outdoor ceremony (@ the Black Canyon Inn *wink wink*) to create a very romantic feel. The lighting can be amazing for a winter wedding. With this romantic lighting you must remember to book an earlier wedding ceremony, otherwise you will run out of daylight altogether!

4. Make You Money Go Further

Choosing a winter date gives you a big bargaining chip with your suppliers. Winter tends to be a less busy time of year so you'll find more availability. For example, here at the Black Canyon Inn we can offer a smaller winter wedding package which includes venue hire and a catering package for up to 30 guests. We also offer our Classic Wedding Package at a 50% discount in the winter time. WHAT. A. STEAL.

5. So many Holidays to choose from

Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve, and Valentine's Day, there are so many options to pick the perfect holiday to celebrate your marriage.  Are you excited to spend time with family? Christmas might be your dream date, allowing the come together for an extra special December 25th.  Want to have an outrageous celebration? What's better than a NYE celebration then?  Or maybe you're excited about expressing your love in very romantic ways. Valentine's Day has you covered and would make a great date for an elopement.  The added bonus to picking a holiday, is having a date no one will forget.

6. Stand Out

Sometimes it can feel like "just another summer wedding," so by having your wedding in the "low" season will give your wedding a different vibe and style. You will get to utilize different palettes of reds and burgundy's, greens and golds. You can embrace snowflakes and heavy fabrics and furs. Create a cozy, inviting atmosphere for your guests. that will have them raving about your unique decor for years to come.

7. Any Color Palette Will Work in the Winter

When planning a color scheme for your wedding, the neutrality of the winter months compliments a variety of shades - from rustic to glamorous, any color is sure to pop! Even incorporating your colors with the winter foliage to emphasize seasonal elements looks elegant yet natural.

8. Comfort Food

You're celebrating! Skip the salad and give your friends and family what they really want, a plate of comfort food. Think of a rich gravy smothering your favorite protein, with a heap of that one carb you can't live without.  Plates of cheeses, piles of mashed potatoes, trays of lasagna. But don't stop there, get creative with your drinks as well. Guests will love sipping hot cocoa and hot totties on a cold winters day.

9. Mulled wine by the fireside

When you're looking for venues, check out ones that are particularly suited to the winter season - we're thinking the Twin Owls Steakhouse that has a rustic feel dominated by an open fire place in the main room.  As your guests arrive at the reception, served mulled wine in the warm and later on you could use this area for offering tea, coffee, hot cocoa, and of course cake!  If your venue has a Christmas tree, all the better!

10. Tropical Honeymoon

When you get to leave behind a briskly cold Estes Park for your honeymoon, the sand beneath your toes is going to feel that much more special.  Plus we all know the bride has put a ton of work into looking fabulous on her wedding day, she might as well get to shed those winter layers and show it off in her bathing suit!
